The HEPA H13 filter keeps out microscopic particles that could damage the motor. The carbon back section of the filter absorbs odors and bacteria, so they don't escape into the room. To ensure that the filter is doing its job properly, it is recommended that it be replaced at least once a year. Doing so will help keep the motor and the air in the room free of pollutants.
